History

NAHSE’S origin dates back to the 1930’s when a group of black health care executives formed the National Hospital Association (NHA), an affiliate of the National Medical Association (NMA). In 1936 the NHA was renamed the National Conference of Hospital Administration (NCHA). After several changes in leadership, the conference activities were limited to one informal meeting held in conjunction with the annual AHA meeting. In 1968, NAHSE was formed and Mr. Everett W. Fox was named the first president. Today, NAHSE has grown into a premier membership organization for black health care professionals.

The Atlanta chapter is one of 25 active chapters in the United States, charted in 1976. The chapter serves health care professionals living within the Metro-Atlanta area. The organization provides a vehicle for blacks to have representation in the conception, design and delivery of quality health care to all people. It also serves as a safe place for networking and professional transparency where life-long relationships are cultivated into mentorships and the opportunity to mentor and teach others. NAHSE members currently manage and or work for key health care organizations within the Atlanta area. The chapter is multifaceted, with members representing a variety of health care professions including: hospital and health care leadership, direct service, providers, association-management, research and education, consulting, managed care and insurance services.

The Atlanta Chapter operates under the auspices of the national chapter, a 501(c) 3 nonprofit organization, with the same goals, mission and vision.
